How to make French Bread in Johor Bahru

Morning all, well today while having a drink of coffee i realised i had no bread for my usual sandwich so decided to make some French loafs, they are so easy i don't know why people don't make their own more often, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to show you how i do it. with pictures and all.

OK the ingredients..

  • 2 x cups of whole wheat flour or white if u want white bread.
  • 1 table spoon of olive oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp of salt
  • 2 tsp of brown sugar
  • 11g of easy mix yeast
  • 1 table spoon of Flax seeds brown (optional)
  • 1 table spoon of Flax seed black    (optional)

    and about 2 x tbs of water (warm)
OK so in the big bowl put in the dry ingredients

In  a jug put the warm water egg and olive oil and stir,( some recipes say add yeast to the water to dissolve) but i used the easy mix and sprinkle over the flour and salt.
then using a big spoon mix the ingredients together - you can not go wrong, if its to dry add more water if to sloppy add more flour.

then once you got a nice dough, kneed it for about 5 Min's, then clean the bowls and oil the bowl place the dough back into the centre and cover with towel soaked in warm water and place in a warm spot for about one hour.

Now is a good time to clean up and make a brew of coffee or tea.
prepare the baking tray, I find it better to just line with baking paper,

after one hour check to see it should be double in size, if so its ready to use if not double leave for another half hour.

Turn oven on to high setting while you now prepare for baking.

Once ready punch it down in the middle and fold edges into the centre, then kneed for ten turns and divide into two portions and make two long sausage lengths, cut 4 sliced along the top place onto baking paper and cover with another warm soaked towel, let it rise about half hour.

Place into over about 215 degrees and bake 20 Min's.

Ingredients together

 Prepare all ingredients before hand

 Dry ingredients ready to be mixed

Add wet ingredients and mix well

good mix but to runny

add more flour as needed to firm up the dough

dough was bit sloppy so add more flour

about ready now to let rise.

remove and clean bowl ready for the rising

add olive oil and wipe around the bowl ready for the dough

 oil the bowl

notice size of dough be4 rising

 Cover the bowl soaked in warm water

double in size can now remove to shape and bake

 Punch down to remove air and shape

lay out and baking sheet prove for 30 mins then bake

 once out on baking sheet cut slices into top

Finished Result

Eat with everything I DO.

I can tell you it was so yummy.
