Bye Bye Marine Fish Tank

M.Tank. At its best in 2011
I have decided to say bye to my Marine fish keeping. And continue with my tropical fish.

While not hard to keep if you do regular maintenance I decided the tropical fish keeping is better for me.

The marine tank gave me access to a big variety of colorful fish and reef life and I have loved every minet of it but the cost is so much more expensive, what with needing a cooler, Skimmers and special lighting for the corals.

My tropical on the other hand requires just lights and filtration system. And I can get colorful fish also.

Would I recommend to other's the keeping of marine fish. My answer is a big Yes.

Ok the process has been hard work, cleaning the equipment to rid of salt content is so hard as it adhears to the equipment and hard to remove.

I gave the corals and fish to friend who is so happy.

Well back to the hard work of cleaning the filtration systems.

And preparing the tropical tank setup.

Start of Marine reef tank - Live rocks in place

One point I would like to make is if i had to do it all again then would recommend not to buy the metal tank holders, the salt attacks the metal plus its a good conductor of electricity and many a time i got shocks from touching these frames. also look at bottom photo you can see how rusty it becomes, and trust me it get very messy once the rust starts.

New Plants for my Balcony in the Sky

You got to Love Malaysia, while out shopping came across this offer 3 4 1, three plants for one price, rm20.

I was so pleased as two of them I had not seen before.

This is such a wonderful place for me to sit out in, the sound of running water, the chimes behind me and the views over Johor Bahru CBD and onto Singapore is truly inspiring.

Why Do I Love Malaysia So Much? Read On to Find Out..

I Love Malaysia. but why would an Expat from the UK love Malaysia so much, and what has it got to offer people who would like to come and retire or just holiday here.

For me One word comes to mind - HARMONY.
(quote from Tourisum Website "To know Malaysia is to love Malaysia. A bubbling, bustling melting pot of races and religions where Malays, Indians, Chinese and many other ethnic groups live together in peace and harmony.") Strange word to hear these days but a welcome one.

When I speak to my friends back home and invite them over for a holiday, they decline say they are going to spain, Portugal or Turkey for holidays and even to retire. and OK it's close to the UK But to be honest, in my mind, that's all its got to offer, because its expensive to live in Spain, Portugal or even Turkey these day in comparison to Malaysia, You also have to learn the lingo of each country and drive wrong side of road.

Malaysia second languages English and spoken widely through out the country.

They have the same driving rules as UK and drive on the right. all signs are in english.

Malaysia is so good I am reluctant to share it really, but first off for me its the people of Malaysia that make it, they are so laid back and smile a lot, the children are respectful of adults, the weather is good all year round and even when its bad weather its still good. rain in uk is cold, rain in Malaysia is hot and while it comes down much harder in Malaysia within a few hours the sun is out and drys the land back to its former sunny self, also cools the temp down another bonus. In fact thats a good word for Malaysia. Bonus as it has so many.

Then you get 5 times the value for your UK pounds, Electricity is about rm. 200 a month, Gas about Rm 25 - 30, water rates about rm75 a quarter remember divide all these by 5 and you will see how cheap it is to live, Petrol is about 25p a litre back home its about 1.90 pounds.

But best of all has to be the FOOD. no mater where you go in Malaysia from hawker food to fine dinning, the food is excellent and highly recommended. cook at home is even cheaper but many households don't bother its easier to take the family out to eat, and no washing up - how cool is that.

So many places to eat in Malaysia -Blog about eating in Malaysia.

So back to the weather I have been here 6 years and only wore long pants about three times, life is so good when you can dress casually and in shorts. Seeing the sun every day is so good for the body, and sole. the greenery here in Malaysia has to be seen to be believed.

They say England has the finest green pastures in the world, but let me tell you pastures apart Malaysia has greenery everywhere you look,

Every town centre has an array of wonderful plant life well manicured by the city council workers, with topiary designed hedges etc.

We have not even got to the beaches yet or the marine life thats all around. the infrastructure in Malaysia is very well in place and even the fibre optics are being installed with every newly built area. and installed to existing areas as demand rises.

OK I dont want to repeat all the other official websites but I would urge all you people from the UK and Europe to Really Consider Malaysia as the pace to live or retire.

I live in Johor Bahru the southern City with just a quick journey over the causeway and your into Singapore in about 30 - 40 mins depending on traffic, it is once of the busiest customs transit point in the world. with thousands of people plying back and forth all day.

Click here for some of the best hawker and food outlets in JB

For more information on this wonderful city I have put together this website. and you can find out so much of what's happening here, the whats on page is updated regularly each month.

I also have set up a Forum for people to discuss things related to Johor Bahru and Malaysia.

Johor is undergoing a massive transformation at the moment
and will be one future metropolis to look out for, better still come and live here. See here for future development pictures. and information. - see a 13 minutes video of the future City of Johor Bahru

Warning! - Sign in Back of Car -Was it A Road Rage Pre-Warning

Is? this what the world has come to, when drivers now advertise that they are angry people before any incident of road rage.

This Warning Sign was in the Rear window of a Singapore Registered Car seen in Johor Bahru today Sat Aug 25th 2012.

I was driving behind a Toyota Alphard people carrier and the above sign was in the back window, so on passing I expected to see a 6 foot giant in the driving seat with an angry face when to my surprise was a Sweet looking little old lady that could just see above her dashboard.

Oh! I thought it was hilarious. but my preconceptions were wrong based on seeing the sign.

I was alway taught as I grew up, not to Judge a Book by its Cover, but it just goes to show we can all get it wrong sometimes, another side to the story is, she may well get angry and have a Big Baseball Bat inside that expensive looking car....

These days one can not take anything for granted, have a good day and thanks for giving me a good laugh today in JB.

What Colors Should I Paint My Home?

Click above picture for more detail.
Interesting Subject, Psychology of Color. We all have our own ideas what designs our homes should be, as we are all different in many ways.

But looking at the photo it explains the reason behind its suggested colours for the rooms.

Not sure I would like the red in the dinning room for me too vibrant, and the office blue would make it cold, (must point out that blue is my favorite colour).

Kitchen yellow could live with but would accent it with blue item as they are a match made in heaven.

Green I really like, but never had that color in the bedroom, and to be honest as I have got older, I think I would use the above guide, but paint all the rooms white and use the relevant colors recommended in the accents of the rooms. For me this would work much better.

Is Life All About Luck - Or Do We Make Our Own.

Yesterday I read some Disturbing news about a young boy of seven on one of 10 being beaten by their Step parent.

Of course I wont say anymore about this case as investigations are ongoing.

But today while relaxing by the pool in the Thistle hotel, Johor Bahru I was encased by this vision of love from a father to his daughter while they played in the pool. and I got to thinking about the poor boys who so young have already had to endure so much pain, It will be hard enough to recover from this let alone get on with life.

On the other hand the daughter who was lovingly been taken care of will I feel, get the best of life that her parents can give her.

I dont mean on a monetary level because regardless of being rich, it does not guarantee success.

So is life all about luck and who we are born too. Or can we make our own luck.

For me in my life luck has played a big part, but it was the early years of a loving family that gave me a good start and installed within me good values in life. And we was poor on the monetary scale.

I also think, that just being in the right place at the right time can make a massive difference to the outcome of things that happen in our lives.

Just something that got me thinking and thought I'd share.

I also came across this picture with meaningful words on and agree with it.

I sure hope the boys can move on have a good life in the future.

Graphic Pictures Get The Message Across Better, Or do They?

Ok so in this Picture without any words it tells me that the guy has Lung problems, the middle girl has liver problems and the girl on the right is very healthy.

To me I like this picture as it says it all but what tickles me the most, is the girl in the middle swigging back the beer.

Boy does she look happy.

But! Does it get the message across, well to me it does, but to a lot of people that are squeamish, I feel they would move away from this picture before any message was imparted to them.

So Maybe the best way to go is graphic picture with concise descriptive writings.

However happy the two on the left look it made me go have some fruit instead of my usual thick toast with lots of melted butter running out, as i bit into it.

Poolside at Thistle Hotel. Johor Bahru.

Just had great workout in gym. And now relaxing by the pool, set in a tropical layout one can drift off.

Listening to families enjoying the water slide from one pool to the next and the birds singing above me it is such a tranquil atmosphere.

Would This Put You Off Flying? Who will you sit next to...

For me, a big part of my holiday is the flights, just as I did when I was a kid, I still get excited about airports and flying, but I must admit you never know who you will sit next to, I think my holiday would be ruined before it began.

The truth is that you only book a seat and not the plane so you have no say who you will sit with.
