Johor Bahru Gets its Own Website - Take a look Now

Well this is it a very colour full website, all abut my adopted home town of Johor Bahru.

Here you will find out whats on in this little city that has a BIG heart.

Come and have a look round the website and then visit the region yourself.

Johor Bahru Looked like Genting Highlands This Morning.

Mist over Johor Bahru.
This is what greeted me this morning, This I may add is the first time I have seen mist like this in JB.

It reminds me of staying in Genting highlands where you are above the clouds. Kinda Spooky really.

This was defiantly a mist and not the Dreaded haze as it had no bad smells and was quite cool, then when we went downstairs into the outside you could look up under it.

Is this Global Warming, who knows but one thing about JB is, you never know what you are going to get living here in this great little city with a Big Heart.

Snack Attack- What Do You Like To Snack On?

For me this is my Favorite or Pate and French Bread. I add a little fruit so not to feel so bad at eating the butter and cheese.
I like to have these with nice cup of Green Tea, or fresh brewed coffee.

For me though, I think my so called snacks are actually meals because thats when i have these snacks at meal times, and I am not making excuses that this makes it ok to have the fatty foods.

Ok I am really but what the heck I read this morning about an athlete in his prime at 35 drop dead while jogging. So why not have the things you enjoy when you want them - One thing folk's for sure is - When your dead your dead so may as well enjoy life and part take in the finer things in life.

I refrained from have a nice glass of red wine with the cheese so do I get good boy points for this? NO ha ha thought not.

Well what ever your eating I hope you enjoy it and worry about the calories later........

Living The Good Life, But What Does That Mean

I am often asked why I say, I am living the good life in Johor Bahru. and it's a good question but one that indeed is hard to answer in a way that it will please everyone, Why? because we as human beings are all different and thats one of the things that makes us so special, and so I can and will only answer the question in a way that suits me and my beliefs.

Living the Good Life sums up in ones mind the tropical living in big house overlooking the sea, having servants to wait on us hand and foot and indulging in foods and wines to the max etc.

Ha ha thankfully I am not one of these persons, you see for me Living the good Life means only one thing,  CONTENTMENT (a state of happiness and satisfaction).

You can have contentment living in a hut or in a penthouse but you have to be content with what you have and not want more than you need (otherwise it turns into GREED).

I have three small meals a day, get lots of exercise (not as much as I should) and enjoy my home and surroundings.

For instance one of the things that makes me happy is my morning coffee while sat out on the balcony just taking in the views of the city the sea and all god creatures that are around me.

I also have great happiness when interacting with my pet Birds, Cats and Fish.

I also love the day to day achievements in my baking. Cooking and cleaning in the home.

While exercising I have time to think about future things I want do and goals to achieve. This usually is around keeping fit. Piano playing. Holidays -places I not been to yet. And local places we can go to chill and enjoy our life here in Sunny Johor Bahru in Malaysia.

So you see my expectations may be different to yours. But one thing you must do is keep away from negativity. Be it people or circumstances. Because nothing will spoil the good life more. In fact some of the happiest people I have met are the poorest. So wealth is not the main part of good life. It's Contentment and sustainability.

Have you bought something only to find Down the road you no longer use it. Of course you have as we all have. We actually do not need a lot of the crap that we get bombarded with on TV and in the media on a daily basis. However I am only beginning to realize this myself.

I am now taking steps to minimize my own home. And get rid of things I no longer need. So I put them in the spare b room and if not used within three months I get rid. I place a sticker on each item as I place in the room. Then I give away to locals.

Anyway hope I have given you an insight into living the good good life. Apologies if you came looking for fast cars. Yachts and other OTT. Items.

Malaysian Clothes Moths Evolving from Pod, I Wondered What These Were, Hanging Up All Over The House.

So I guess if you have not seen Clothes Moths before ,hanging around your house in Malaysia. you are lucky.

Why do I say lucky, well to be honest they are a nuisance and attack clothes, mats, curtains bedding well anything thats cloth.

For the first few years in Malaysia I saw them around the home, but as they did not bite me It never bothered me, but lately I am finding things that have been eaten to shreds. and so made it my mission to move them out of my home.

But as soon as I move them they are back with in a few days.

Yesterday I cleared about 30 from ceilings walls and in cupboards, they mainly like the damp areas of bathrooms or near to them, but i found them in wardrobes and in the back bedroom.

Then I spotted one out of its shell dragging itself around the Bath mats while feeding.

Check out the video.

The Life cycle of the clothes moth

(This is a segment from the pest blog below.
http://nopests.com/blog/flying-insects/clothing-moths-making-headway

Warmer weather yields an increased likelihood of clothing moth infestations. Contrary to popular belief, these pests cause great harm within the home. Clothing moths will munch on clothing and other materials within dresser drawers and closets, destroyingvaluable items by leaving irregularly shaped holes. As is true for most insects, higher temperatures increase the reproductive rate of clothing moths. For example, egg hatching may take up to 3 weeks during winter months, but occur in as little as 4-10 days during the summer.

In addition to increased reproduction rates, clothing moth populations outdoors are also higher, providing more opportunities for moths to enter homes and initiate infestations. Exclusion and sanitation are critical! Repair broken or torn window screens and verify that they fit properly in the window frame. Do not leave doors propped open, as many insects can detect pressure differences and will then enter homes. Avoid storing delicate wool or silk items in attics, and consider placing these items in sealed plastic or garment bags while not in use. Inspect plants and other items as you bring them indoors to prevent transporting insects. Clothing moths can impose significant economic damageto your belongings if you do not take action.)

So don't take these little critters for granted or just when you want to wear that favorite shirt or dress it will have been attacked. to look like this..

Monsoon Weather is among us today.

Wow. In all my six years in Malaysia I don't recall another day that has had as much thunder. Lightning and bolts of lightning shooting down onto the CBD of Johor Bahru.

And I feel blessed not to be out in it. All my pets are cuddled up to me scared. i feel a bit wet but at least the fish are happy lol. and the noise is deafening to the ears.

In fact I now got a head ache.

Spag Bol for Tea

Decided to do a Spaghetti Bolognese last night and while it looked very nice. One ingredient was missing. Garlic.

And Spaghetti without garlic is not good. For me it's the garlic that brings all the other ingredients together.

Also one other missing ingredient was the Parnassians cheese.

I used good old mature cheddar and while it was good tasting. You ca not beat Parmesan on Spaghetti.

I also serve it with my fresh baked home made French bread. Warm with lots if butter. Yes I said butter. Nothing else beats that melted butter taste when eating with Bolognese sauce.

Ha ha one thing for sure even though not my best. It still got empty plates. A sure sign they liked it.

In 1914 Before a Boy went to war, He did something?

While we remembered those who gave their lives to make the world a safer place for the rest us.

I came across this touching Picture of a Bike chained to a tree in 1914, before a boy went to war and  it got me thinking of all those that thought they would return.

It's important that we never forget all fallen soldiers around the world, because no matter who they are fighting for, they feel so strong to go out and protect their loved ones and country.

And also the ones that have no choice and are made to fight...

We are so lucky to live here in Malaysia.

Selling My Honda Civic 2.0 2007 Car, in Johor Bahru, Malaysia

Selling a car was so easy in the UK but here in Malaysia, they make it so difficult.

In UK you advertise your car, buyer comes looks at it, if both happy money changes hands and you pass on the log book minus the bottom slip which you post to the DVLC - This lets them know you no longer have the car and are not responsible for it.and have the detail of the new owner.

Ok so if its a dealer he will register the car interim - which make him responsible for it but when he passes it on to the new owner ,he wont show up on the logbook.

This is a good thing because the new owner is still getting a one owner car - This will make a great difference when they come to sell it later on.

So the Details Of My Car.

Honda Civic 2.0l, 2007 model (the best shape)

One owner and  Low km on the clock, in the 61400 range used daily so changes, it's kept in great shape and bodywork is great, 100% no accidents, the shoes on this car are Michelin SP3 - Sport Pilot 3 they best tyre's for driving in dry wet conditions.

The Car has been Fully serviced from day one at the Honda Main Dealers in Johor Bahru, logbook with all stamps.

Test drive pugeot 408turbo and 308turbo

Hi Folk's. today finally got to test drive both turbo versions of the Pug 408 & 308.

Going into these test drives I Prefered the 408 for looks and cabin feel. However I have to say that the 308 won me over on many accounts the main being pull of the engine in the lower 10 - 50klm. Which for me is important because I am a city boy and and it's the lower gears that I need to respond when I put the pedal to the metal.

And also found the ride better. The ac in 408 was loud but somehow with the sun roof the. 308 felt south better. So my vote went to the 308.

New Speed Trap's In MY - RM300 FINE - SLow down be safe....

I Didn't know they hid camera like this, until today. Not only is the fine high but now you can be caught unknown, best to keep to speed limit and be safe.

In the UK if you get caught speeding you also get 3 x points added to your driving license if you reach 12 total you are banned from driving for one year.

In Fact you can be a good driver with clean license then take a trip from Manchester down to London and by the time you reach London  you could have got caught 4 times on the motorways speeding cameras and lose your license.

As you know Malaysia will follow other countries but for now be happy you only get rm300 and no points.

When I was younger I was always taught when in a strange country it was best to go with the flow (traffic wise) but now they got these speed cameras up and more going up by the day It's just not worth it.

I kept to speed limit the other day and was so surprised at the type of vehicles that speed every day from school buses to massive trucks that deliver to building sites, I hate these as they often trow up stones in their path.

OLD AND NEW CAMERAS that will catch you unaware.......

You won't find any police sitting under the umbrella anymore... from September 2012
Keep your car speed at 110 kph to be safe.

Maybe they’re working on how to collect the fine at the exit toll gate. Likely the computer will not open the barrier until you pay the fine. Also, the toll gate staff might be authorized to collect the fine on behalf of the Police?

Fine is fix at only RM300.00 each time.

You can't find any police sitting under the umbrella anymore... starting from September 2012.

See where they hide their Speed trap cameras along the Malaysia Highway.
